We thank Gene Kuhn, who continually gives of his time to help the Lutheran Social Services Food Pantry. It was Gene, who not only picks up donations for delivery to the pantry twice each week but also volunteers at the pantry, who suggested that we concentrate our fall drive for the pantry on hygiene items.
Personal care items are not covered by SNAP (the government food-assistance program) and are expensive. So, when they come into the pantry, they are especially appreciated and quickly taken home. Even as we provide more than the usual amount of personal care items, Gene said that there is still no stockpile.
Please continue to add personal care items for those who rely on the pantry stretch their budgets to your shopping list.
We thank Gene for the great idea, for all his great work at the pantry and for sharing his experiences with our Middle School youth in their Confirmation journey. His many tours of the pantry with our youth help them to understand the needs of others, how we can help to meet them, and embodies our call to help the least among us.
